JBL Xtreme 3 review – it will be loud this summer!

JBL Xtreme 3 review – it will be loud this summer!

At the beginning of this year, the JBL brand in Russia introduced another speaker from the Xtreme series, number 3.

"The JBL Xtreme Series is renowned as the sweet spot for those looking for maximum volume while maintaining portability. The new speaker system is very powerful, 100 watts of our signature sound is easy to take with you anywhere, and we hope that all fans of the brand will appreciate the new design"

Compared to the previous model, the novelty received a completely redesigned audio circuit and became more than twice as loud as its predecessor. The Xtreme 3 has a USB-C port for both internal battery charging and external device charging. The frequency range has expanded slightly, and towards low bass. The upgrade also affected the Bluetooth version: now it is 5.1, which means that the quality and range of communication will be higher. In addition, the Xtreme 3 speaker now weighs 1.9 kg versus 2.4 kg. It seems to be a trifle, but I don’t want to carry extra 500 grams with me either.

Slightly redesigned: the JBL lettering is now much larger, and impact-resistant translucent inserts have appeared on the sides.

In general, there are not so many changes, but they are pleasant. Perhaps someone will look at the previous version of Xtreme, which now costs about 13,000 rubles, and Xtreme 3 is around 19,000 rubles.

TCL TW30 MoveAudio S600 TWS headphones review

Any decent smartphone manufacturer is bound to offer their own TWS headset with them. So TCL introduced in December on the Russian market not only a flagship smartphone, but also a flagship headset. Let's see what happened .

Specifications

  • Edminators: 2×20 mm and 2×70 mm
  • Output power: 25W (RMS)
  • Frequency response: 53 Hz – 20 kHz
  • Signal-to-noise ratio: > 80 dB
  • Battery type: 5000 mAh lithium polymer
  • Battery charging time: 70 minutes
  • Music playback time: up to 15 hours
  • Bluetooth version: 5.1
  • Dimensions (H x W x D): 298x136x134mm
  • Weight: 1960 grams

Appearance

An interesting fact: the previous speaker Xtreme 2 is available in as many as five colors, while Xtreme 3 is available in only three, and rather boring ones – black, blue and khaki. So before choosing a particular model, think about the color of your future audio system.

The dimensions of the novelty are 298x136x134 mm, while the dimensions of the second version are 288x136x132 mm. In general, the difference is small. But in terms of weight – the abyss: Xtreme 2 weighs 2393 grams, and Xtreme 3 – 1968 grams.

If we talk about design, then you have a recognizable appearance of JBL brand speakers. Both speakers are similar: braided, metal strap mounts, rubber.

The front of the Xtreme 3 features a huge metal JBL logo painted gray on the outside and red on the piping.

Protection is quite powerful – IP67. Xtreme 3 can be carried anywhere: to the pool, to the beach, to nature in the rain.

In the new version, translucent silicone inserts were provided on the sides. Most likely, they serve for a more stable position on a flat surface in the case when the column is placed vertically.

Total: JBL Xtreme 3 looks expensive, stylish and youthful.

Elements

On top of a separate rubber plate are two buttons – turn on / off and pair by bluetooth. To the left of the plate – the volume is lower and Partyboost (connecting several similar speakers into one audio system), to the right – the volume is higher and play / pause. All buttons are plastic.

Below the JBL logo is a speaker battery level indicator. It is made traditionally: a light strip that is filled with white.

To the right and to the left there are two passive radiators made of aluminum with a diameter of 90 mm. They have metal rough exclamation marks pasted on them. Inside, the "passives" have restrictions on the course, so that at high power the emitters do not break out of the grooves.

On the reverse side, you can see a large rubber plug. Hiding under it:

  • USB Type-A for charging external devices with 5V/2A output parameters;
  • USB Type-C for charging the battery of the speaker and charging external devices with output parameters of 5V / 1.5A;
  • 3.5mm AUX jack

Stuffing

Official data says that inside the JBL Xtreme 3 case there are 2 drivers with a diameter of 70 mm (woofers) and two drivers with a diameter of 20 mm (tweeters). The power of both the first and second according to the passport is 25 W RMS.

The woofers use neodymium magnets. Yes, they are more expensive, but they have three important parameters:

  • Shape. Almost any shape can be made, unlike ferrite magnets;
  • The power of interaction. The magnetic energy is about 10 times greater than that of classical magnets;
  • Lifetime. Everything is clear here: the efficiency of neodymium magnets will decrease by 1% in 25 years, while the efficiency of ferrite magnets will decrease by 80% over the same period.

The JBL Xtreme 3 uses two TPA 3116 chips as an amplifier – a class D digital amplifier. It has two main advantages: small size and high power. Both chips are equipped with a passively cooled heatsink.

According to the "datasheet", the TPA 3116 is capable of pumping 2 channels of 50 W at a load of 4 ohms or delivering 30 W per channel at a load of 8 ohms.

If we talk about the DAC, then the JBL Xtreme 3 has two 32-bit PCM5121 chips. You can also see the Asahi Kasei Microdevices 7755N digital signal processor and the TPS65987D USB-C controller on the board.

About sound

The volume of this model is very high. Easily pumps a room up to 50 m2 (it is difficult to describe by other standards). On the street at full volume, you can annoy neighboring houses, at least those people who live on the first two floors. Joke.

There is no distortion, the volume is adjustable over a wide range. The minimum value is enough for listening almost near the ear. You know, this is when you want to put music in the background.

The JBL Xtreme 3 has a frequency range of 45 Hz to 18,000 Hz to my ears.

The speaker perfectly conveys the voice, and the sound is clearly separated from the bass and high frequencies. Somewhat unusual experience. I listened with pleasure to the song "Time Machine" – "The place where the light is." Andrey Makarevich's voice is transmitted very cleanly and accurately, extremely lively and naturally.

And in the melody of Mr. Big – “Wild World”, the guitar plays just perfectly, the impression that the performer is sitting in front of you and plucking the strings.

The Eagles – "Hotel California" (instrumental live version) played in a new way for me. Again those wonderful guitar riffs, soft bass somewhere in the distance.

The sound of the JBL Xtreme 3 is articulate, moving forward, and the sound character is bright, slightly colored, juicy. As for the bass, it is not bloated and the damped low frequencies do not resonate. Detailing and dynamism at a high level. The soundstage is oddly narrow.

In simple terms, the JBL Xtreme 3 pumps great, especially when listening to modern popular music. By the way, the column conveys performers like Morgenshtern so-so. Apparently, he also understands that this is all "zashkvar"!

Opening hours

This speaker uses a built-in 5,000mAh (7.2V, 36Wh) battery. The battery consists of several Samsung batteries – ICR18650. Interestingly, the battery can be easily removed from the device case, as it is attached to the cable (of course, for this you still need to disassemble the speaker case).

At about 30% volume, JBL Xtreme 3 works for about 10-12 hours.

Included is a fast charge power adapter (15W to 60W) that fills the battery to 100% in about 70 minutes.

Impressions

Frankly, I expected to hear a flat and primitive pop sound from the JBL Xtreme 3: well, the type of speaker is designed for the younger generation, who are used to listening only to “boom-tsyk”.

And then, surprisingly, Xtreme 3 played so that some test samples from other brands made small puddles of fear and envy. The sound from Xtreme 3 is very cool, what can I say. Read all the details in the relevant section.

There is, perhaps, only one minus – the price. Still, 19,000 rubles for most potential users is a bit much. But it's JBL!

Elements

At the top, on a separate rubber plate, there are two buttons – on / off and pairing via Bluetooth.

To the right and left are two passive radiators made of aluminum with a diameter of 90 mm. They have metal rough exclamation marks pasted on them. Inside, the "passives" have restrictions on the course, so that at high power the emitters do not break out of the grooves.

On the reverse side, you can see a large rubber plug. Hiding under it:

  • USB Type-A for charging external devices with 5V/2A output parameters;
  • USB Type-C for charging the battery of the speaker and charging external devices with output parameters of 5V / 1.5A;
  • 3.5mm AUX jack

  • Shape. Almost any shape can be made, unlike ferrite magnets;
  • The power of interaction. The magnetic energy is about 10 times greater than that of classical magnets;
